Book on Mahādashās
Mahādashās are one of the defining systems of Vedic astrology and its primary framework for understanding timing. They describe long planetary periods in which a single planet becomes dominant, activating specific themes and karmic patterns in the chart.
Each life follows a fixed sequence of these planetary cycles, determined at birth by the Moon’s Nakshatra. For example, a Moon in Ashwinī begins with the Mahādashā of Ketu. Knowing which planetary period is active clarifies why certain experiences, challenges, and priorities come to the foreground at particular stages of life.
Every Mahādashā carries its own karmic emphasis — areas of growth, opportunities, fortunes and lessons shaped by the nature of the ruling planet. Mahādashā cycles reveal how planetary karmas and significations unfold in lived experience.
